Bankrekeningen NETeller bevroren!

Online payment processor NETeller heeft in een persbericht dat gisteren is gepubliceerd bevestigd dat de Amerikaanse autoriteiten grote delen van beschikbare gelden hebben bevroren. Dit staat in direct verband met de rechtszaak die tegen de oprichters, Steve Lawrence (46) en John Lefebvre (55), is aangespannen. Beide Canadezen hangt een gevangenisstraf van 20 jaar boven het hoofd.

Het persbericht bevestigt eerdere statements die FBI agent Neil Donovan in een stuk van USA Today maakte. Maar ook Reuters en CNN bevestigen de recente ontwikkelingen. In de Neteller Statement stond hierover: "To the best of the [NETeller] Group's knowledge, it believes that the amount of funds seized by the USAO or

otherwise restricted by third parties does not exceed US$ 55 million. These funds were largely in the process of being transferred from the Group to its US customers or vice versa."

Het geld dat in beslag is genomen door de FBI blijft bevroren in afwachting van verdere ontwikkelingen in de zaak die tegen Lawrence en Lefebvre is aangespannen door het United States Attorney's Office [USAO] for the Southern District of New York. NETeller's statement bevestigde dat NETeller's adviseurs al hebben gesproken met USAO representatives op 19 januari, net toen Amerikaanse banken begonnen met het weigeren van NETeller transacties. NETeller hoorde op 19 januari dat $55 miljoen voorlopig in beslag is genomen.

NETeller kan dus voorlopig geen transacties doen naar Amerikaanse spelers: "As a result of the restrictions placed by third parties, court-ordered seizures, and related legal concerns, the Group is currently unable to make payments to US customers." The release continues by affirming NETeller's continuing attempts to repatriate funds to U.S. residents. NETeller also plans to cooperate with the USAO, and will produce documentation likely showing the deposits by and payments made to U.S. residents. "[T]he Group is in discussions with the USAO to manage an orderly return of funds to US customers. As part of these discussions, it is contemplated that the USAO will engage a forensic accounting firm, at the Group's expense, to assist in this process and to examine the Group's financial position. 'The return of funds to our US customers is a top priority for NETELLER,' aldus Ron Martin, Group President en CEO.

NETeller zegt ook dat ondanks het feit er nog geen zaak tegen het bedrijf zelf loopt, dit geen garanties biedt voor de toekomst. Er kan nog van alles gebeuren. NETeller blijft dagelijks nog minstens $200.000 dollars omzetten die gegenereerd worden door niet-Amerikaanse spelers. Sinds het nieuws is het aantal NETeller signups gedaald met 65%. Ook de aandelen op de London Stock Exchange mogen voorlopig niet worden verhandeld.
