Greg Raymer: "UIGEA komt er niet door" | Overig Poker Nieuws

De Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act is alom in het nieuws. Elke dag wordt er weer iets nieuws over bekend. Het is gerust te betitelen met 'hot news'. WSOP-winnaar van 2004 Greg Raymer roert inmiddels ook in het heetgebakerde discussies omtrent de UIGEA. Raymer denkt dat het verbod op online poker vrij snel weer teruggetrokken zal worden. "I'm pretty confident that by the time we get back from the election, in December and beyond, that we can repeal UIGEA," aldus Greg Raymer.

Waar eerst nog de mogelijkheid bestond dat Greg Raymer zich zélf zou wanen in de politiek, heeft hij daar inmiddels van afgezien: "I already spend so much time away from my family. I couldn't justify adding

a thousand hours of extra time and effort between now and November to my already-full schedule," aldus Raymer. De Amerikaan overwoog zich kandidaat te stellen voor het vice-presidentschap van de Libertarian Party.

In het kort legt Greg Raymer uit welk politiek klimaat er heerst bij deze Libertarian Party: "The basic tenet of the LP is that there's an extremely limited government that just does a handful of absolutely necessary things that can't be achieved by individuals," aldus Raymer, "With that, you can pretty much do what you want as long as you're not directly hurting someone else. So obviously the Libertarian Party isn't going to stop you from… doing things like playing poker," vervolgt de pokerspeler.

'Pokerspelers, herenigt u'
Volgens Raymer besteden te weinig pokerspelers aandacht aan de mogelijke wetswijzigingen die in het verschiet liggen: "You have to convince them that (being involved) is in their best interest - and it clearly is. If you're a professional poker player you need…the online games to be available so you can make a living. And even if you're not a professional, if you're a poker player you're someone who wants to engage in these activities," aldus Raymer.
"So if you want the continued right to [play poker], you're going to have to put in a little effort," vervolgt hij. ''Maybe [it takes] a little money to try to protect your rights, to reverse some of the things that are going on now and create new laws and a new environment that's going to maintain your rights and privileges as you enjoy them today."

Geen UIGEA
Greg Raymer is vrij uitgesproken in het al dan niet invoeren van de Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act. "I've met a pretty good number of congressmen, and all (of them) seemed personally very convinced that poker is a game of skill and therefore shouldn't be treated as if it were a pure form of gambling such as roulette," oordeelt hij.

Raymer prefereert een wet zoals Barney Frank voorlegde, waarin het volk zelf kan kiezen of het online wil gokken of niet. "I'm pretty confident that by the time we get back from the election, in December and beyond, that we can repeal UIGEA. Or [we could] get a new law passed that clearly and specifically legalizes online poker, maybe something like the Barney Frank bill," zo besluit hij.


Glen Chorny wint EPT Grand Final
De Canadese student Glen Chorny mag zich de trotse winnaar noemen van de laatste EPT van dit seizoen. In Monte Carlo vond het grootse festijn plaats. De Grand Final van het EPT-seizoen, met een buy-in van €10.000, kende een eerste prijs van €2.020.000,-. Dit bedrag mag de 22-jarige Chorny dus meenemen naar Canada.

De heads-up tegen runner-up Denes Kalo was snel beslist. Waar de eerste hand nog een walk werd gegeven aan Kalo, was het de tweede hand die allesbeslissend bleek. Kalo schoof al zijn chips naar het midden met en werd gecalld door de van Glen Chorny, die op dat moment met ruim 11 miljoen chips voorstond tegen de schamele 1,2 miljoen chips van Kalo. Het board zorgde ervoor dat Chorny zich winnaar mag noemen van de EPT Monte Carlo.

Zelfmoord Brandi Hawbaker bevestigd
Al enkele dagen ging het gerucht dat pokerspeelster Brandi Hawbaker zelfmoord gepleegd had. Vandaag is bevestigd dat de uit Las Vegas afkomstige Hawbaker zichzelf inderdaad van het leven heeft beroofd, afgelopen zondag.

Op het forum twoplustwo.com schrijft Brandon, vriend van Brandi, het volgende over de mogelijke oorzaak: "We started spending every day together from that point on and I soon realized what a mess her life was. She was living in a tiny efficiency behind paradise (for those not familar with Vegas, that is one of the worst neighborhoods. High crime, poverty etc). She had no car. Suspended drivers license. No bank accounts, credit cards etc and warrants for her arrest (traffic violations, bad checks, etc), aldus Brandon.


Woede-interview met Negreanu een grap
Daniel Negreanu werd tijdens de European Poker Tour geïnterviewd door siktilt.com. Tijdens het interview (klik hier om interview te bekijken) ontplofte Negreanu na de vraagstelling van de journalist van SikTilt. Uit agressie duwde Negreanu de journalist het nabijgelegen zwembad in.

"As for the SikTilt interview, that guy is a jerk and I'm glad I threw him in the pool. He totally deserved it after that line of questioning", begint Negreanu op zijn blog over het interview, "kidding, that was all just a joke too and they approached me with the idea earlier in the day and I thought it would be fun," vervolgt Negreanu daarop.
